A Case of Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia Related to HLA Antibody

Abstract
Neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (NAIT) is a very rare disease caused by maternal alloantibodies response to neonatal platelet antigens. Especially NAIT cases due to HLA antibodies are very exceptional, because most of the antibodies which
caused
NAIT are against platelet-specific antigens.
A female, preterm lower birth weight baby (36.5 wks, 1540 gr) with thrombocytopenia was born to a 33 year old healthy mother who was not associated with any history of previous transfusion, medication or autoimmune disorder. Lymphocytotoxicity
was
positive between paternal lymphocytes and maternal sera. Platelet crossmatching test was also positive between chloroguine untreated paternal platelets and maternal sera, but negative to chloroquine treated paternal platelets. These findings
suggest
maternal sera which contain anti-HLA antibodies to attack neonatal platelets and paternal platelets. This case was most likely related to the maternal HLA antibody.
